Overview

Overview

Enjoy the primary forest of the Pico Bonito National Park, Cangrejal River Area, camping one night in the tropical rain forest and on top of a waterfall. Our camping site is located in the Sierra Nombre de Dios with abundant waterfalls and streams with crystal clear waters that flow down from the Mountain surrounded by exuberant pristine vegetation. The start of the walk is about 9 km from La Ceiba in the Cangrejal River basin. This is a perfect habitat where spider monkeys, tramps, anteaters and abundant birdlife live in the morning and afternoon. We have found tapir and jaguar tracks near the camping area. Your visit will help preserve this little paradise.

Day 1

We leave in the morning before noon from the place and time defined by the participants. We will arrive at the point where we cross the Cangrejal River by the suspension bridge of the PNPB. We plan to walk with our backpacks from about 50 meters above sea level to approximately 515 meters above sea level with a duration of 3 hours. Approx. up to the camp. At the beginning we will pass through recovered secondary forests and then through primary forest and almost vertical walls and ridges. The last hour of the backpack walk is through very steep terrain until reaching the top of La Cascada El Bejuco. We will have lunch en route when it is lunch time. We will install the camp and then in a participatory way we will collect firewood and prepare dinner. The afternoon will be to rest after the hard walk and enjoy the paradisiacal landscape from above. Cold lunch and hot dinner.

Day 2

After breakfast we hike without equipment to explore above Cascada and return to camp for lunch to break camp and pack for the hike back to the Hanging Bridge where the vehicle awaits us to return to La Ceiba. After lunch we walk (2 hrs) to the highway to return to La Ceiba. Hot breakfast and cold lunch.

Día 3

The day before (day 2) we will camp at a campsite above the waterfall, over another waterfall and hike cross country above the second campsite. The two camps are located on the banks of the Quebrada El Bejuco, so we will always have plenty of water. Lunches and dinners will be made hot by cooking with firewood. On the third day we return to the Visitor Center after Lunch on a journey of almost 3 hours down.
